East Coast Thang?

At Least One Small Earthquake Shakes Maryland

No, I didn't feel it and I'm rather glad I'm far enough away to miss the excitement.

Hmm..California is soggy and flooded. Maryland is cold, wet and shaking.

Iowa is looking more tempting all the time, Theresa.

First Things First

Theresa asked...... What is the best compliment anyone ever gave you, and why?

My all time best compliments came from my kids. All three at different times have told me I'm a good mom to them. Not just in the suck-up kind of way teens can have but in a genuine way. The first came from the oldest who at the time was 16. He said I'm tough when he needs it and a friend when he needs that instead. I'm old enough to be wise and young enough to be cool. He said all that after I'd made him turn himself in to the local police for stealing and selling his brothers Adderal. I guess the why it's the best is self explanatory.

Should anyone ever wander on to this post in the future, I'll be glad to answer your question too.

Call Now - Lines Are Open

Yesterday Average Joe opened his blog to reader questions. He got some really good ones and gave well thought out answers. Joe also mentioned that he thought it would be interesting if other bloggers did the same. Well here it is ya'll, ask away.

Update Sorry it's taken me so long to get these answered. I had some family stuff going on that kept me away.

Chick asked...Name an unusual talent you have (& why you're good at it) Hmm.

I don't think I have any "unusual" talents. People tell me I have a gift for color. I have a lot of different kinds of creative outlets. I paint, quilt, sew etc. I always hear that I have a knack for putting colors together that invoke emotions.

Average Joe asked...Do you give money to transients (or bums, as we call them around here), or do you give them the "I don't see you treatment?"

It depends on where I am in the country. In my smallish town, I do. If I'm in a larger city I don't. A few weeks ago I was in a local convenience store and overheard a young couple talking. They were what most here would call Goth in a negative way, all in black, multi-piercings. He told her to take the last of the money to get herself some crackers, that she hadn't eaten all day. Neither of them looked stoned or drunk just poor and he was being so gentle with her it touched me. So I bought them dinner and gave then a little cash to get themselves breakfast. They said they were traveling through, hitchhiking back to their families in Baltimore. I don't know why but I believed them.

This town is so small that everyone knows the few bums by name and know that they are on the streets by choice. I don't help them with cash but I will buy them food when I have extra money. With most of them it's some type of mental disorder and they'll forget to eat.

Bent asked....What well-known person do you admire and why?
2nd part - What well-known person do you despise, and why?

I mostly don't admire the famous. In general I'd say that very few have ever done admirable things to get famous. Aside from Mother Teresa and those kinds of people of course.
If I had to pick one it would be Hillary Rodham Clinton. She has put up with a tug boat load of shit from a good ol' boy and never lost her individuality. Understand, I'm talking personality not politics.

Part 2. George W. Bush. Need I say more?

Really Bad Poetry

My love for you burns like the incinerator at the dump
I dream of the day that we can hump
My heart it races like the rats
When they are being chased by the cats.
You face is pretty, you smell so sweet
Just like wild flowers growing atop the heap
I want to lick your pussy,
Front to back
Until you’re juicy,
Like day old lettuce in a sack.
My cock it grows so hard
Like the yesterdays donuts from the Jiffy Mart.
My love for you, it flies
Like the pigeons in the skies

THE HORRIBLE LOVE POEM CONTEST

Theresa of 2HotChiks has issued a challenge to her readers. THE 2005 HORRIBLE LOVE POEM CONTEST has begun and I fully intend to do my worst.

Here are some thoughts to get you started....

ANALOGIES & METAPHORS FOUND IN HIGH SCHOOL ESSAYS

~ Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.

~ His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like socks in a dryer without Cling Free.

~ He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

~ She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

~ She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.

~ Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.

~ He was as tall as a six-foot-three-inch tree.

~ The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.

~ From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

~ Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.

~ The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.

~ Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

~ John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.

~ He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.

~ Even in his last years, Grandpappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.

~ The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.

~ The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.

~ He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

~ The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.

~ He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

~ She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs.

~ It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally staple it to the wall.

And Now We Return to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming....

So where do I go from here? I have ended things with DS. I can not continue to hurt either of us. I can not risk hurting anyone else. I have a family and a home that takes all of my time. I have children to finish raising. I must behave like an adult not a love struck teen. Yes, I'm trying to convince myself I've made the right choice. I can list the reasons, including a basic morality that until recently has been my rock. A son who tells me how glad he is that his parents are together when so many of his friends parents live apart. Another son that says he needs his father and me to help him step out on his own, that he can't make it without both of us. A daughter that would just not understand and may not be able to live on her own for many years. I chose to bring these children into the world, they are my responsibility.

Still, I can't bring myself to regret the feelings I've had the last few months.

From Amethyst

I put all my music in a Winamp play list and this is the first ten it played…….

The Random Ten:

1. Angela McCluskey – Long Live I
2. Billie Holiday – All of Me
3. Damien Rice – Volcano
4. Doobie Brothers – Drift Away
5. Eminem – Just Lose It
6. JaRule/Ashanti – Always on Time
7. Janis Joplin – Mercedes Benz
8. Nickelback – Figured You Out
9. Willie Nelson/LeeAnn Womack – Mendocino County Line
10. Enigma – Sadeness

What is the total amount of music files on your computer?

I have 1164 actual music files on the computer, but I burn off 100 or so every now and then to a data disk. I probably have another 600 there plus 200-300 CD’s.

The last CD you bought is:
Matchbox 20 – More Than You Think You Are and Miles Davis – Kind of Blue both bought on the same day. I rarely buy CD’s anymore unless it’s MB 20 (my favorite) or one of the few artists I know well enough to like all of their music. Mostly I download because my tastes are ecclectic and my moods hormonal.

What is the last song you listened to before this message:
Nelly/Tim McGraw – Over and Over

Write down five songs you listen to a lot or mean a lot to you:
Grant Lee Phillips – Wish I Knew
Stevie Nicks – Landslide
Deanna Carter – Strawberry Wine
Nina Simone – Feelin’ Good
Norah Jones – Come Away with Me
and the list goes on depending on the day and my mood

Who are you gonna pass this stick to? (three persons and why)
1. Average Joe because he's interesting and not what I expected from the surface.
2. Chick because music is telling and I'd like to know more about her
3. Bent because he's another MB20 fan.
